Daniel Laufer’s new film 1/50 sec reflects on and uses the optical illusion of movement in motion picture photography caused by a physical characteristic of the human eye called persistence of vision. Based on the fact that the retina of the eye continues to perceive an image for a short period of time after the light stimulus representing the image has been removed, he plays on the effect of the temporary superimposition of images and uses it as a real and symbolic analogy of a narration whose only point of reference is a world based on faulty perception.
