Im Herbst stehen in Deutschland Bundestagswahlen an. Vor dem Hintergrund Einfluss gewinnender rechter Parteien und Gruppierungen in ganz Europa hat der Verein zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz e.V. den französischen Künstler Arnaud Cohen eingeladen, seine Installation Hunting Season von 2016 in Berlin zu zeigen. Zusätzlich hat der Künstler eine neue Arbeit verwandten Inhalts entwickelt: Dansez sûr moi (2017). Diese beiden Installationen bilden den Kern der Ausstellung. Ergänzend werden ältere Arbeiten gezeigt; darunter Smileys Revanchard (2011) und Winter over Europe (Ich lieb dich nicht, du liebst mich nicht).
Hunting Season rekurriert auf das berühmte ‚Rien’, das Louis XVI. am Vorabend der Französischen Revolution in sein Jagdtagebuch eintrug. Ursprünglich ausschließlich auf den Jagderfolg des Königs bezogen, liegt die Interpretation nahe, hierin ein Zeichen vollkommenen Verkennens der eigenen wie der historischen Lage zu sehen. Für das Foyer des L40, in dem sich der Kunstverein befindet, hat der Künstler eine auf den Ort zugeschnittene Version des Eintrags in Neon gebaut. Diese wird als 22. Beitrag der Reihe wallworks bis 28. Oktober 2017 zu sehen sein.
In den Ausstellungsräumen findet die ursprüngliche Version von Hunting Season ihren Platz Sie wird ergänzt durch die Arbeit Dansez sur moi, die Cohen eigens für Berlin entwickelt hat. Sie beruht auf einer Art archäologischen Untersuchung seines Ateliers, der sogenannten Coutellerie, deren bewegte Geschichte Okkupation und Kollaboration während der Besetzung Frankreichs im Zweiten Weltkrieg bzw des Vichy-Regimes einschloss. Teil der Präsentation wird eine Tanzperformance auf der Installation sein.

In autumn elections are held in Germany. Against the background of the growing influence of right-wing parties and groupings in the whole of Europe, the Verein zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz e.V invited the French artist Arnaud Cohen to show his installation Hunting Season (2016) in Berlin. In addition, the artist has developed a new work of related content: Dansez sûr moi (2017). These two installations form the core of the exhibition. In addition, older work is shown; including Smileys Revanchard (2011) and Winter over Europe (Ich lieb dich nicht, du liebst mich nicht).
Hunting Season refers to the famous ‚Rien‘, Louis XVI noted in his hunting diary on the eve of the French Revolution. Originally exclusively related to the King’s hunting success, the interpretation suggests that this was a sign of a complete misunderstanding of one’s own as well as the historical situation. For the foyer of the L40, where the Kunstverein is located, the artist has built a version of the entry in neon. This will be shown as the 22nd edition of the wallworks series until October 28th, 2017.
The original version of Hunting Season finds its place in the exhibition space. It is supplemented by the work Dansez sur moi, which Cohen has developed especially for Berlin. It is based on a kind of archaeological study of his studio, the so-called Coutellerie, whose turbulent history included occupation and collaboration during the occupation of France in the Second World War and reign of the Vichy regime. Part of the presentation will be a dance performance on the installation.

A l’approche des élections au Bundestag et devant l’influence croissante des partis et des groupuscules d’extrême droite à travers toute l’Europe, le Verein zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur am Rosa-Luxemburg- Platz e.V. invite l’artiste Arnaud Cohen à présenter à Berlin son installation de 2016 Hunting Season. Dans le même esprit, l’artiste a développé en 2017 une seconde installation Dansez sûr moi. Ces deux œuvres représentent le cœur de sa proposition berlinoise. Elles sont encadrées d’autres œuvres réalisées par l’artiste sur cette thématique entre 2011 et 2017 dont la vidéo Winter over Europe (Ich lieb dich nicht, du liebst mich nicht) de 2017.
Hunting Season fait référence au fameux « Rien » que Louis XVI avait écrit dans son carnet de chasse le 14 juillet 1789. Si ce mot n’est sensé abordé que l’insuccès du roi à la chasse ce jour-là, on peut également l’interpréter comme un aveu de l’entière méconnaissance de sa situation personnelle et politique.
Pour le foyer du Kunstverein l’artiste a également créé une version adaptée de cette inscription en néon. 22èmecontribution d’artiste à la série wallworks des œuvres réalisées in situ pour le foyer du L40 depuis sa création, elle sera présentée jusqu’au 28 octobre 2017.
A l’étage, au côté de Hunting Season l’artiste présente donc Dansez sur moi, une installation participative qu’il a spécialement conçue pour Berlin. Cette installation est construite autour du passé occulté de son atelier « La Coutellerie » dont l’histoire tourmentée est marquée par l’occupation et la collaboration durant la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale sous le régime de Vichy. Lors du vernissage et tout au long de l’exposition, le public sera invité à performer l’œuvre en dansant sur sa surface.
